What is transcription?
Transcription is the process of converting recorded or live speech into a written or electronic text document.
How much does it cost?
All rates are in AUD (which provides a great saving on the exchange rate for our US/UK/European clients!)
We charge a flat rate of $2.50 per minute (plus GST) of audio with a 4 day turnaround, or $3.50 per minute (plus GST) of audio with a 24 hour turnaround (guaranteed for up to 60 minutes of clear audio with up to three speakers, and with our very best efforts for audio that is more difficult). SRT transcripts are an inclusive price of $5 per audio minute, no hidden fees or extra costs.
Tell me how this works
Certainly! Our super-speedy turnaround time starts from the moment we confirm successful receipt of your audio, as we have to check every audio file for quality, number of speakers, accents, etc, to ensure your file is allocated to the best typist for the job. Then it is edited by a second pair of ears for accuracy, and returned straight to your inbox!
How quickly can you transcribe?
An average experienced transcriber will process an hour of audio in 5-6 working hours. Your transcript is then quality-checked by a supervising editor. Throw in the 24/7 customer service available at your beck-and-call by our Support Crew, and that's a whole lot of work going into your files!
Turnaround Times
Our standard service is $2.50 per audio minute with a 4 day turnaround. Our premium service is $3.50 per audio minute with a 24 hour turnaround (guaranteed for up to 60mins clear audio, and we will do our VERY best with longer audio lengths or more difficult audio, such as poor quality recording or more than 3 speakers - naturally these files MAY take longer to complete). All rates are +GST, and extras (such as timestamps or verbatim) are a small additional charge, available on request.
When will you tell me if my order will be late?
Of course! We pride ourselves on communication, so please feel free to email our Support Crew at any time.
Why don't you guarantee turnarounds of files that are more than 1 hour long?
Great question! Simply put, we care about quality. For this reason, the smallest possible number of people work on your transcript, and this is how we achieve such high quality transcriptions. As long as each individual file isn't longer than 60 minutes or difficult audio, we should be right. Email our Support Crew if you have any queries at any time.
Do you offer timestamps?
Yes! A timestamp, also known as a time code or breakpoint, is a [00:00] time inserted at 2-minute intervals for free, or more frequently on special request.
What does verbatim mean?
Verbatim means ‘exactly as uttered’. This means we would transcribe it with all the ums, ahs, pauses – word for word, syllable for syllable. Our default is to transcribe so that a reader can easily understand the transcription. This means we will take out ummms, ahhhs, false starts, etc. However, please mention in your order if you wish us to transcribe verbatim. This takes a great deal of extra working time and is an additional charge of 50c per audio min.
What is your default spelling?
Our default is to spell transcripts in British/Australian, but we can also transcribe using American spelling (no extra cost).
What should I type in the ‘Audio Notes’ section?
Please provide all technical terms, names or places in the dialogue. The more info you supply, the more accurately we can transcribe your audio! You can also describe the speakers here, e.g. the gruff, low voice is Greg and the dainty, heavenly voice is Mary.
Regarding multiple speakers ... READ THIS!
We can deal with multiple speakers - no worries. Another great feature? We do not charge for hard audio. HOWEVER, the service we provide is a very human one and it will take longer to comprehensively record dialogue from multiple speakers. Additionally, if customers don't provide detailed information on how the speakers' voices sound different, we cannot guarantee speaker ID, so please be as specific as possible. If you write: Nancy, interviewer; Greg, older male, know-it-all; Mary, sweet lady, soft-spoken; Samantha, young woman, confident voice; Felix, South African accent; Wendy, has a voice that is as smooth as silver and reminds you of a distant and glimmering moon of hope, plucked out of the night sky and delivered onto a waiting bed of roses ... and so on. The more info you provide, the more accurate your multiple speaker transcripts will be!

Privacy and Quality
Who will transcribe my material?
Quality, hand-picked professional transcribers. Our team of transcribers is based in many countries around the world, so that we can provide 24/7 service throughout different timezones. However, they are all native-English transcribers.
How do you choose your transcribers?
Unlike other transcription businesses which outsource their work to any old freelancer, we handpick and test each of our transcribers, editors and supervisors – we have a small team with a strong work ethic and proven track record.
How much does the team at DoneItNow like transcribing?
We love it! If transcriptions were food, we would have it for breakfast, lunch and dinner.
Do you guarantee your work?
Of course. If the transcript you receive isn’t up to scratch, we’ll correct it at our cost!
When do you delete my files?
90 days after your transcription files are uploaded, our system automatically and permanently deletes all audio files. This is for privacy and confidentiality reasons.
For any other privacy considerations, please review our Privacy Policy here. Non-Disclosure Agreements are happily signed on request.
Is your service secure?
All transcripts are 100% confidential. We will never, ever, ever, ever, ever, ever release any details of your transcription to anybody but yourself. Are our files stored securely?
Our secure server is highly encrypted and protected.
Do you save our credit card details?
Nope! We use PayPal in order to simplify the billing process. You can make your purchases at any time by credit or debit card, even without a PayPal account.
Is there any audio you will out-right reject?
Yes. We have made the decision to reject and immediately refund any orders that consist solely of audio we deem to be 'near-impossible'. Our job is to provide our customers with high-quality, 98% accurate transcription in awesome turnaround times. If the audio recording is very bad (e.g. recorded on a phone, many people mumbling and talking over each other, etc.), we simply cannot deliver on that promise. We rarely encounter audio we cannot complete - and as you know, we do not charge any extra for hard audio - but in rare cases containing very hard audio, we will immediately contact you and provide a refund :). Email us anytime if you have questions!
Refunds or Problems
After your files are uploaded, there is a 14 day customer review period in which you can contact us regarding errors or inconsistencies in any of your transcripts. After this period, your audio files and audio notes are automatically and permanently deleted.
What happens if there is a problem with my transcript or transcripts?
If you have any issues with your transcription, please contact us within 14 days of the files being uploaded. We will then flag the relevant job or jobs as ‘Issue Found’ and we will correct the transcript at our cost to your satisfaction. We are only happy if our customers are completely, ridiculously happy and fully satisfied with their transcription/s.
